Wildlife around the cabin
There is a rich birdlife around the cabin. The birds are fed with seeds on the terrace all year round. There are also many squirrels visiting the cabin during the day.
You’re very likely to spot deer during your stay! Below the cabin, there is an area where we feed deer and elk during the winter. In the summer we plant a field, which deer are very fond of. Even if you don’t see the animals, it’s exciting to walk down and look at the tracks below the cabin. There are binoculars in the cabin to observe the wildlife outside.
Facilities:
The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, oven, and fridge. The kitchen has a sink with hot and cold running water, and everything you need for cooking and serving is provided. There is a fridge under the counter with a small freezer. Water from the tap is suitable for cooking and washing, but you’ll need to bring your own drinking water.
There is a small bathroom inside the cabin, with a sink with hot and cold water. The toilet is on the ground floor just below the cabin—a fresh and clean bio-toilet.
The cabin is well-insulated and heated with a wood stove/fireplace. There’s a large stove in the living room and a smaller one downstairs in the bedroom. Firewood and candles are included in your stay. The cabin has solar power, and there are lamps/lights in every room.
Around the cabin:
On the ground you’ll find a nice fire pit with a grill pan and seating. It’s a great spot for grilling and telling tales—especially while gazing at the starry sky. You will also find a “Tarzan” course connected to the cabin that children can challenge themselves in. The Tarzan course is in the forest up the hill behind the parking lot and is shared with guests staying at Gjøkeredet. In the Tarzan course you can try the zipline, balancing, and climbing.
A well-marked hiking trail starts and end at the Tarzan course, it is about 3 km long. The trail runs through the forest and is a nice and suitable trip for most people!
Below the cabin runs a river with a small swimming spot and a waterfall. It’s lovely to take a short river walk along the riverbank when the water level is not too high.
There’s something for everyone to experience in the area, both right around the cabin and on longer adventures. Contact the hosts if you’d like tips and advice. There’s also a folder in the cabin with descriptions of activities, maps, etc.
